Beer Baths: The Combination Of Hops And Malt For Relaxation And Beauty

Beer Baths: Enthusiasts of this experience believe that the ingredients in beer are beneficial for the skin when used in a hot bath.

Legend has it that Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, owed her beautiful skin to baths in milk and honey. Nowadays, some are seeking similar benefits from beer.

Recently, beer baths have opened in Iceland, Spain, and the United States, inspired by an old tradition. Immersing oneself in beer has a long history in the Czech Republic. According to BBC, hops soothe body stress and open pores, while the malt in beer is considered a wellness enhancer.

Beer Baths, Chateau Spa Beerland is one of the most luxurious beer baths in the Czech Republic, a country that introduced this modern wellness trend in the 1980s. Located in a beautiful historical building in Prague, this spa features beer bath rooms that include not only tubs but also traditional straw beds that complement the beer bath experience. This prickly straw bed stimulates the skin through its rough texture and creates a sense of closeness to nature after the bath.

Unfiltered Czech beer, still containing a complete range of essential ingredients like yeast, is considered “living” and retains a high level of its vitamins. Advocates of this experience claim that beer’s components in a hot bath are beneficial for the skin, relieve muscle stress, and improve circulation. Its aroma is also said to provide relaxation and enhance mood.

Beer Baths, The pleasant novelty of this wellness trend has led to the opening of beer spas worldwide. Dr. Cindy Jones, a biochemist, explains: “Beer contains three beneficial components for the skin: malted grains, yeast, and hops. Both malted grains and yeast are rich in B vitamins, which increase skin hydration and elasticity and reduce hyperpigmentation (spots from excess melanin production).”Hops are particularly rich in xanthohumol and humulone; the former is a powerful antioxidant with anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, while the latter is an antibacterial with therapeutic benefits for the skin.

Studies have also shown that hop extracts may reduce anxiety, mild depression, and stress. The long history of hops as a sedative in traditional medicine also supports its recent scientific interest in skincare. However, keep in mind that filling your home bathtub with beer will not replicate the experience of a beer bath, especially since you won’t have access to unlimited premium beer or a straw bed to relax on.
