Dr. Katherine Chang, a plastic surgeon, explains: “The reason these treatments have gained such popularity is that they act more as skin boosters. Essentially, you are stimulating the body to enhance the skin from various aspects—like improving collagen production and elasticity—and I think that’s really interesting because most of the treatments we have right now are more focused on volume increase.”

New Beauty Trend, In the case of filler treatments, hyaluronic acid is injected into the desired area to add volume to the face, with results lasting up to a year. However, skin boosters like polynucleotides are stimulants that instruct the skin to repair itself.

New Beauty Trend, Polynucleotides first gained popularity in South Korea and Europe and later made their way to the U.S. market. These treatments are often used after laser or microneedling procedures and can be administered in some clinics in New York for $350. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved the injection of polynucleotides, though some doctors are already performing them.
