Olympic 2024: Yusuf Dikeç, a retired Turkish Gendarmerie officer and a sharpshooter, has gained global fame overnight on social media with his unique stance after winning a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Before achieving this feat, Dikeç had honed his skills, allowing him to shoot calmly with one hand in his pocket.
Dikeç, known for his calm demeanor, became an internet sensation as images of him in a white T-shirt, regular glasses, and one hand in his pocket went viral, making him look like an ordinary person competing in the Olympics. Some even compared him to an assassin. However, the 51-year-old is no newcomer, having competed in every Summer Olympics since 2008.

Mikec and Zorana Arunovic secured the gold for Serbia, while Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh of India took the bronze. Paris 2024 was Dikeç’s fifth Olympic appearance, and he placed thirteenth in the individual events. He is already looking forward to the 2028 Games, stating, “I hope to win a gold medal in Los Angeles.

Olympic 2024, Shooters at Olympic events have the freedom to dress as they please. Many gather in Chateauroux, France, for the competitions and use special lenses to reduce sunlight and improve focus. Contrary to some claims, Dikeç did wear yellow earplugs during the events to avoid distractions. He mentioned to Turkish media, “I didn’t need special equipment because I’m inherently a shooter, and my success wasn’t due to having my hand in my pocket.
“Additionally, Kim Min-jung, who won silver in the women’s 10m air pistol event, also gained fame for her calm shooting style and reliance on a complete set of shooting tools. The official Olympic account on X shared images of Kim and Dikeç on Thursday, saying, “The Olympic shooting stars we didn’t know we needed.”
