2025 Golden Globe Awards Presented: From “Emilia Pérez” To “The Brutalist”

Golden Globe Awards: The film Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard, won the award for Best Foreign Language Film, while Zoe Saldana received the Best Supporting Actress award.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place on Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, where the winners were announced.

Since the musical Emilia Pérez (produced by Netflix) and The Brutalist (from A24) had the most nominations at the Golden Globes, it wasn’t surprising that both films won major awards.

Golden Globe Awards, However, according to Hollywood Reporter, an interesting point is that the two big winners of the evening were, respectively, a Spanish-language musical directed by a French filmmaker and distributed by an American company about a transgender criminal, and a three-and-a-half-hour 35mm film with a 15-minute break during its screening, shot on VistaVision cameras.

Some argue that these films represent everything that is “wrong” or “incorrect” in Hollywood: long, preachy, and detached from the realities of the world. In contrast, neither of these films were actually produced in Hollywood, and contrary to popular belief that Hollywood is the center of all prestigious awards and films, the Golden Globe winners are actually chosen by a diverse group of journalists from around the world. Meanwhile, others insist that these films are exactly the bold and humanitarian works that should be made and celebrated.

Golden Globe Awards, The important point is that these successes took place during a ceremony broadcast on American television, signaling the growing acceptance of films that, due to their unique content (such as the use of non-English languages or different themes), might otherwise face criticism.

Regardless of all the debate, The Brutalist won the Best Director award for Brady Corbet, and the Best Actor award went to Adrien Brody. Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard, won Best Foreign Language Film, and Zoe Saldana received the Best Supporting Actress award. El Mal also won the Best Original Song award.

Golden Globe Awards, This level of recognition for these films, especially as voting for the 2025 Academy Award nominations will begin on Wednesday, shows the potential impact these films might have in future competitions.
