And Their Children After Them, by brothers Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, is an adaptation of Nicolas Mathieu’s 2018 novel of the same name. It tells the story of two boys in a small French town trying to experience their first sexual encounter. In their attempt to impress a girl at a party, they get caught in a conflict that leads to a lifelong feud. This poignant and bittersweet film, with its beautiful cinematography and 1990s rock soundtrack, captures the Boukherma brothers’ passionate portrayal of their generation’s struggles and entrapment in growing economic and social issues.

Throughout this section, a voiceover reminds us that organic life, with its resilience and longevity, will outlast humanity and survive any man-made catastrophe. The third part of the film demonstrates how the ideas of biologists were misused during World War II to further human destruction.
