Khaki And Olive: The Fall Colors Of The Year
Fall Colors: The adaptability and versatility of khaki have made it a favorite among designers.
Khaki, with its soft and neutral tones, has come to replace the bold and bright colors like Barbie pink and fiery red from previous seasons. Looking back at New York and London Fashion Weeks, and with Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks ongoing or approaching, it seems that this fall, attention is shifting towards more subdued and neutral hues.
Fall Colors, It makes sense that khaki becomes popular during the cold and frosty months of the year, but this fall, we are seeing an even stronger presence of neutral shades. Khaki can be considered similar to brown, complementing various styles, and it goes well with almost everything. Its adaptability and versatility, from streetwear to high fashion elegance, have made it a favorite among designers.
The revival of 1990s fashion has contributed to khaki’s renewed popularity, a color often seen in classic American brands like Ralph Lauren.
Fall Colors, This neutral shade pairs well with other upcoming fall trends, such as burgundy, suede, gold accessories, and brown leather bags and shoes.
Louis Vuitton combined this color with snakeskin designs in its menswear collection.
Burberry showcased this shade in several of its recent collections, including Fall/Winter 2024, Holiday 2025, and its Spring collection at London Fashion Week.
The Fall Colors Of The Year
Khaki formed a significant part of Dior’s holiday collection, unveiled in Scotland.
Gucci also paired khaki coats with bright pink, yellow, and blue hues.
Khaki tones were prominent in the Fall/Winter 2024 collections as well. Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford’s shows were filled with monochrome khaki looks, combining various shades of the color with trench coats, coordinated sets, scarves, belts, and bags.
The first collection by Chemena Kamali for the fashion house Chloe featured standout khaki looks, presented in linen, chiffon, and leather fabrics.
The historical roots of khaki clothing trace back to its use in military uniforms. The word “khaki” comes from Persian, meaning “the color of soil,” and entered the English language through the British Indian army.
Fall Colors , Khaki was first used in 1846 as the uniform color for the “Corps of Guides” in India. Following this, all regiments serving in the region, both British and Indian, wore khaki uniforms made of cotton or linen, which eventually replaced the British army’s easily distinguishable red coats due to its high camouflage capability.
The U.S. military also adopted a similar olive shade in 1902 for soldiers’ winter service uniforms. This brown-green shade was widely used by many countries’ armies during both World Wars.
Fall Colors, A century and a half after its widespread use in the military, khaki is making a strong comeback in the fashion world this fall and winter, celebrated through the latest styles of the year.
