Kim Kardashian Claps Back At Detractors Over North West’s ‘Lion King’ Performance, Reconnects With Ye

Kardashian: In a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian addressed the social media backlash following her 11-year-old daughter North West’s performance at a “Lion King” anniversary concert.
The performance, which took place last year during the celebration of the iconic animated classic, sparked heated criticism and allegations of nepotism.
During the episode, Kardashian revealed that she had anticipated the negative reactions and had tried to nip the criticism in the bud even before the show began. “I already knew what was coming,” she said. “Sure, she’s not Whitney Houston, but people keep insisting she got the gig just because of her famous parents. North is her moment. They want to see her on TikTok, on Instagram—anywhere—because she’s a natural performer.”
“And if anyone dares to bash a child who’s having the time of her life, then frankly, screw you!” Kardashian added emphatically.
After North West’s performance at the Hollywood Bowl, where she donned a hoodie and a fuzzy headpiece to sing “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” during “Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event,” Kardashian expressed her immense pride. “She did an outstanding job,” she said. “Anyone who criticizes a kid is just being a hater—she’s not there to be Mariah Carey.”
However, the reaction on social media was mixed. Many users lambasted the casting, with one person on X remarking, “North West might be great in a high school production of ‘The Lion King,’ but for a 30th anniversary concert, it feels a bit off. The nepotism is glaring, and you can clearly hear the lack of rehearsal. Shame on the parents—this was more for them than her.”

Earlier in the episode, Kardashian admitted that she had been conflicted about allowing North West to perform, given the inevitable scrutiny. “North is very comfortable on stage, though she’s not exactly a singer,” she noted. “She raps and has shared the stage with her dad before, but as a mom, putting your child in a spotlight full of opinions is something you really have to think about.” She even joked, “I never intended to be her momager for another decade.”
Despite the weight of the decision, Kardashian ultimately gave her blessing for the performance because “it’s something she genuinely wants to do, and I truly believe in her ability to shine.”
Later, the episode showed North West rehearsing while a proud Kim recorded her from the audience. Although she only had four days of rehearsal with a vocal coach, Kardashian was impressed by how well prepared her daughter was for the concert.
Adding to the positive feedback, Jason Weaver, who played Simba during the performance, took to Instagram last year to commend North West. “What an honor it is to share the stage with this rising young star in the making!” he posted, adding, “I’m so proud of you, North! You’re doing an absolutely phenomenal job in this show!”
Kim Kardashian’s staunch defense of her daughter underscores her commitment to nurturing North West’s passion for performing—even in the face of intense public scrutiny.
