Norwegian Researchers Uncover The Secret To Success
The Secret To Success: Those with higher willpower often share another key trait: a positive mindset. Norwegian researchers claim to have discovered the secret to success.
Two professors from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) sought to identify which personality traits are essential for achieving success. Their study revealed that individuals with higher willpower often share another critical trait: a positive mindset. These two characteristics are interconnected—having willpower fosters a more positive mindset, and conversely, a positive mindset strengthens willpower.
The Secret To Success, In the study, 1,500 participants completed a questionnaire designed to evaluate their enthusiasm, perseverance, and mindset (their attitude toward abilities and success). The participants ranged in age from 13 to 77, with an average age of 26.
The researchers were most interested in participants with the highest and lowest mindset scores. Those with a positive mindset possess what the researchers call a “growth mindset,” meaning they believe intelligence and skills can be developed through hard work, commitment, and effort. They view obstacles as opportunities for growth and believe that their abilities and intelligence can improve over time.
The Secret To Success, In contrast, those with a “fixed mindset” believe that intelligence, talents, and personality are innate and unchangeable, no matter the effort. Such individuals tend to avoid challenges, give up when faced with difficulties, and perceive constructive criticism as personal attacks.
